As the signature event at the American Taekwondo Association's (ATA) 2007 World Championships, the ATA will officially open the H.U. Lee International Gate & Garden to state, national and foreign dignitaries and visitors from around the world on June 22.
The exquisite $1.4 million structure will serve as an international
symbol of the friendship between South Korea and America, welcoming
visitors to the city of Little Rock and Arkansas. Behind a hand carved and
painted 27 foot wide by 20 foot tall South Korean gate will lie a garden of
Korean foliage and symbolic structures that educate visitors about ATA
founder the late Haeng Ung Lee's (Eternal Grand Master H.U. Lee)
contributions to society, the country of South Korea and the Songahm
Taekwondo style the Eternal Grand Master devoted his life to developing.
The H.U. Lee International Gate and Garden is a gift to Arkansas by the
family of the late H.U. Lee and members and friends of ATA, a worldwide
organization with more than 1,200 schools in seventeen countries. Located
alongside the Statehouse Convention Center on the bank of the Arkansas
River, the Gate and Garden has taken more than a year to complete.
Dedication ceremonies will begin on site at 10:30 a.m. on June 22. For more
