Security Officers Asleep at Peach Bottom Nuclear Plant

Diverse News Editor's Note: Will do a follow-up on this on Tuesday. I did contact

the Wackenhut Nuclear Services Dept. about the below release, but the Security Officer (would not give me his name),

informed me to call back tomorrow.

Update:  I sent an email to the Wackenhut Nuclear Services last night (I also carbon copied it to Matt Drudge of the

DrudgeReport) only to get it kicked-back as unreachable. There was a link to a story by Scott Weinberger of

wcbstv.com, posted this morning on the DrudgeReport as an exclusive, in which the Wackenhut Security Officers were apparently

sleeping on the job. Kudos, Scott.

    PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla., Sept. 24 /PRNewswire/ -- On September 24,
2007, The Wackenhut Corporation issued the following statement:
    An incident involving a small number of inattentive security personnel
at the Peach Bottom nuclear power plant in York County, Pennsylvania was
recently brought to our attention. Wackenhut takes this matter very
seriously and does not tolerate any performance that does not meet our
standards. Consistent with our security protocol, we are fully cooperating
with the Plant's investigation and are conducting our own, independent
investigation to gather and understand the facts.

Wackenhut has and will continue to cooperate with Peach Bottom and the
Nuclear Regulatory Commission in this matter. At the same time, we believe
it is important to note that this incident has had no impact on the level
of security and safety at Peach Bottom. Furthermore, this incident is not
reflective of the quality of service Wackenhut has provided to Peach Bottom
or any other client.
    While we are disappointed with Exelon's decision to cancel its contract
at Peach Bottom, we can state with confidence that Peach Bottom remains
safe and secure. We believe this is the most important fact in this entire
matter. Moving forward, Wackenhut will continue to cooperate fully and
provide high quality security service as Peach Bottom transitions security
in house.
