-Paintball: What's it all about? Fun!

By MARK SMITH

PHILADELPHIA -  This past Saturday Diverse News took a trip over to Picasso Lake Paintball, located in Winslow Township, New Jersey.

This is my second time playing. The last time was December 2005, with snow on the ground and cold on my ears. Since Paintball is the fastest-growing outdoor sport around these days, I decided to make a digital video of some of the action. to let the viewers get a feel of how the game plays.

The first things you will notice in the video (which is rather long, ~ 28 mins.), is that some of these guys are really into it. With all the fancy equipment like body protection, automatic markers and fancy uniforms.

The game can get physically demanding and if you are over 40 like me, it takes its toll (you can hear me breathing like Jason in the vid). Safety is the first thing the refs let you know about. Keeping the plug in your marker, face masks on and general terrain information are given to you before you begin your assault on the enemy.  The little guys are good players. They hide better and move about quicker. A little guy got me and I didn't even see him from the foliage. The teams playing were basically walk-ons as most came with about 5 players each and were consolidated into groups of 10-12.

Sherry, from San Diego, spent her first time ever playing and said she "really enjoyed it."

All in all, I found it to be a great way to spend the day and the more friends you bring, the better time you can have.
