Veterans' Homes Score High in Customer Satisfaction
HARRISBURG, Pa., June 9 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The commonwealth's
six veterans' homes, operated by the Department of Military and Veterans
Affairs, will celebrate the 16th annual State Veterans' Homes Week, June
10-16.
"The week is designed to make citizens aware of the resident veterans
in their community, and to thank the staff and volunteers of these homes
who provide selfless and exceptional care for these heroes each and every
day," said Maj. Gen. Jessica L. Wright, the state's adjutant general. "It's
also an opportunity for the community to visit the homes, meet some of
America's honored veterans and explore the numerous volunteer programs
available."
Special activities throughout the week will range from Flag Day and
Hall of Fame Induction Ceremonies to volunteer recognition receptions.
The six homes serve 1,600 eligible veterans and their spouses and
include the Delaware Valley Veterans Home in Philadelphia, the Gino J.
Merli Veterans Center in Scranton, the Hollidaysburg Veterans Home in
Hollidaysburg, the Pa. Soldiers' and Sailors' Home in Erie, the
Southeastern Veterans Center in Spring City and the Southwestern Veterans
Center in Pittsburgh.
A recent DMVA customer satisfaction survey of 1,047 immediate family
members of residents of the department's veterans' homes showed that the
homes scored higher in customer satisfaction than a similar national
customer satisfaction survey regarding nursing homes in the private sector.
My InnerView Inc. conducted the national survey.
In both the DMVA and national survey, people were asked about various
aspects of the nursing home environment -- from the quality of the nursing
care to the food being served there. Two key questions asked respondents in
both surveys to rate the overall quality of their nursing home care in
terms of their overall satisfaction and if they would recommend it to
others.
Pennsylvania's veterans' homes scored 92 percent in overall customer
satisfaction as compared to 83 percent in the national survey.
Additionally, 90 percent of the families surveyed said they would recommend
a Pennsylvania veterans' home to someone else as compared to 82 percent of
respondents in the national survey. Six-hundred-and-two recipients
responded to the DMVA survey.
"Our number one goal has always been to help our residents maintain the
highest possible quality of life in a comforting and comfortable
environment," said Brig. Gen. Cecil Hengeveld, the state's deputy adjutant
general for veterans' affairs. "Our veteran's home staff takes its job very
seriously and its commitment to the commonwealth's veterans is reflected in
this outstanding level of customer satisfaction."
