WASHINGTON, June 21 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The U.S. General
Services Administration hosted the GSA Training Conference & Celebration
for the new VETS governmentwide acquisition contract (GWAC) at the Marriott
Renaissance Hotel on Thursday, June 21. More than 300 were expected to
attend, including GSA industry partners, customers and senior federal
agency leaders. GSA designed the VETS GWAC as a small business-set-aside
contract for service- disabled, veteran-owned small technology firms.
GSA provided attendees with training sessions, networking opportunities
and a chance to exchange information while meeting with current or
prospective partners/clients. Participants gained insight into how the VETS
GWAC works and how it helps federal agencies meet their socioeconomic
goals. They also met the service-disabled small business owners
participating in VETS, and talked with them about their experiences in
federal contracting.
The VETS GWAC is a multiple award contract with a five-year initial
term and a five-year option period available, having a potential overall
value of $5 billion. It is designed to provide cutting edge technology
solutions to federal agencies while assisting them in reaching their 3
percent goal for contracting with service-disabled, veteran-owned small
businesses. A complete list of industry partners along with VETS contract
and pricing information is available on the VETS GWAC web site at
http://www.gsa.gov/vetsgwac.
In addition to VETS, GSA provides a contract portfolio that includes
offerings from small disadvantaged 8(a) firms and historically
underutilized business zone (HUBZone) small businesses, as well as
large-business integrators.
Founded in 1949, GSA serves as a centralized procurement and property
management agency for the federal government. GSA manages more than one-
fourth of the government's total procurement dollars and influences the
management of $500 billion in federal assets, including 8,600
government-owned or leased buildings and 205,000 vehicles. GSA helps
preserve our past and define our future, as a steward of more than 420
historic properties, and as manager of USA.gov, the official portal to
federal government information and services. GSA's mission to provide
superior workplaces, expert technology solutions, acquisition services,
purchasing and eGov Travel solutions and management policies, at best
value, allows federal agencies to focus on their core missions.
Did You Know? GSA supplies U.S. military troops in the Iraqi theatre
with not only office supplies and paper products, but with sports utility
vehicles modified to run in sand. These products are valued over $130
million and are part of GSA's ongoing commitment in the War on Terror.
