Week in News: Commentary: Updated Oct 15th 12:28am PHILADELPHIA - October 12, 2007 Use of Psychology - Once again, here come the Psychologists telling the public what they should have done, like in the Ohio Shootings. The shrinks made their entrance into society not by society but via Hollywood. Since Psychology's introduction, to today's present state of mentality, and using a longitudinal scale as a basis: How has Psychology helped society? If you include social dysfunctions, such as crime in this case, as a basis for accomplishments, how has society benefited from modern-day Psychology? What good has the use of Psychology done for the public? Did crime go up or down since its inception? Is there more social order? Or is it used to control society? The Noose is Loose! This story from Columbia University made top headlines nationwide. But does it have merit? There was much attention after Columbia U. had the President of Iran as a guest speaker. I guess it wasn't enough attention. I don't know why it made news when there was no perpetrator named or captured. It becomes a credibility issue. But the psychological effect of a noose being found on an Black/African-American Professor's doorknob can create hysteria and actually fuel racial tensions not to mention a guilt-complex especially in the minds of innocent little White/European-American kids as their people are almost always the ones charged with racism (even by proxy). Perhaps the FBI will find-out who actually placed it there after they conduct the DNA tests and go over the surveillance videos. There is talk about this being a hate-crime but after just checking the law (here) I don't believe it falls into that category. The only charge closely related to leaving a noose would be harassment but that's only if it is persistent. I believe this story was picked-up to get it into the minds of the public as pretext for restricting basic civil rights of free-speech which resolutions may be in the works. Similarly, the mainstream media should go down to 13th & Marker Sts, in downtown Philly, and broadcast some of that stuff people holler from their megaphones on many Saturday mornings. Speaking of the FBI - Their Top Ten List- The FBI have been making big-time indictments. These certainly should have gotten more press than the above. Will update over the weekend. NASCAR and Congressional Staffers - What the heck do they think - that the Southerners will crap in their food?
Retired Lt. Gen. Ricardo Sanchez - blames everyone but himself for the status of the Iraq War. He, above all, should know that the Iraqis' minds have been based on authority (doing what others tell them) for generations. What was once honorable, like the Arabian Knights, had been twisted in their minds into what Saddam Hussein willed on them. It takes time (at least a half-generation [~15 years]) to break from that mold especially when you have die-hards still wanting to forcefully bend the Iraqis' minds into they're [wannabe leaders'] prism. The only way the revolutionists understand (from the years of oppression) is with a display of murder and mayhem. There will be a time when the Iraqis' (if they can get unified) will just not be able to take it anymore. I don't feel that there is enough civility being taught over there. Like for folks to start committees on their own, peacefully. Translating 'Robert's Rules of Order' would be a good start. They need to learn from the Turks. Anyway, the general looks like he's ready to run for office. Al Gore received the Nobel Peace Prize - not for inventing the Internet (thanks) but for his work on the environment. A good story on it. Russia is upset about our missile defense in Europe. Sure, come on in. Duke Lacrosse - yep, they're suing. But hey, if they are innocent-doesn't that mean someone lied?
